Advantages of foamed concrete compared to organic materials

Advantages of foamed concrete compared to organic materials

1: High heat resistance. Polystyrene board begins decomposing at 74℃, it will melt and shrink when the temperature is further increased. Foam concrete is one of the inorganic cement materials. It is heat resistant up to 1000℃ and no thermal decomposition occurs, therefore, it has a longer service life and will not lead to an insulation failure.

2: Green, environmentally friendly, non-toxic and harmless. Concretes foamed do not have any toxic ingredients, the foaming agent and various admixtures do not contain volatile harmful substances, it is favorable for indoor environment. Though, polystyrene boards will emit the toxic styrene gas upon the thermal decomposition.

3: The strength is superior to the one obtained in polystyrene board. The compressive strength of polystyrene board is 0.02 – 0.03 MPa, and compressive strength of foam concrete with specific weight 200 – 300 kg/m³ is 0.6-0.8 MPa , and has better compression capability.

4: Lower cost of use. The cost of a foam concrete is 30%-40% less than polystyrene boards and it clearly has economic benefits.

5. Fast construction speed. Foam concrete can be poured and flatten not taking series of one sheet on another. Its construction speed is 3 times per faster as compared to polystyrene board.

6: There are no joints; therefore, a reduction in the heat loss due to the joint is achieved. However, the polystyrene boards are placed one by one, with numerous joints; therefore, it is too easy to form cold bridges or hot bridges.
